10 MSW Students Selected as Finalists for Research Award

The 10 finalists for the 2015 Research Award for MSW Students have been announced by CalSWEC’s Research and Development Committee and the California Association of Deans and Directors.

They include two each from CSU Fullerton, San Jose State University, and UC Berkeley, and one each from CSU Chico, CSU East Bay, CSU Los Angeles, and CSU Monterey Bay. Each student’s research involved work with a local agency or institution.

The 10 finalists, whose selection was based on specific criteria, received an award of $250 each. Their initial applications were based on proposed research. In the two-tiered award process, the finalists will complete their research and submit an Executive Summary of their research results. From among the finalists, five completed projects/theses will be selected and awarded an additional $500 each. The recipients of the third annual Research Award for MSW Students will be announced this summer.

CalSWEC’s Research and Development (R&D) Committee, in conjunction with the California Association of Deans and Directors (CADD), established the Research Award for MSW Students to encourage and support student research that will contribute to the evidence base for policy and practice for public human services. Goals of the research award include:

  • Fostering interest in applied, practice-oriented research for MSW students;
  • Promoting student research that is relevant to agency practice;
  • Creating a forum for students to share their research results with agencies that will benefit from it.
