2017 Symposium on Fairness and Equity Issues in Child Welfare Training and Education

Equity from the Start

May 10, 2017 | University of California, Berkeley

Since 2003, the California Social Work Education Center (CalSWEC) has hosted a series of symposia to achieve greater equity, responsiveness, and social justice in child welfare practice. Each symposium has provided a statewide forum for sharing training and education strategies for workforce development in the delivery of high-quality, equitable services in California.

This year's theme, Equity from the Start, has two intended meanings:

  1. equity from the first contact between a family and the child welfare system, and
  2. equity from the very start of life.

The symposium is sponsored by CalSWEC with support from the California Department of Social Services and the Regional Training Academies.
