STRONG PRESENCE OF TITLE IV-E, CalSWEC AT CSWE MEETING
Title IV-E Graduate Receives CSWE Award
Cheryl A. Whittle, LCSW, PPSC, a Title IV-E program graduate who currently serves as an instructor and Field Liaison in the Department of Social Work Education at California State University, Fresno, has been honored by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) with its 2007 Heart of Social Work Award. The award was presented at the October CSWE Annual Program Meeting in San Francisco.

Also at the October meeting, CalSWEC Research Specialist Sherrill Clark, Ph.D., co-chaired the Research and Program Evaluation Track and facilitated an oral/paper session on qualitative methodology. Presentations by CalSWEC staff and graduate student researchers included the following:

TITLE IV-E NEWS
Humboldt MSW Program Awarded Accreditation
Humboldt State University's MSW program, previously in candidacy, has been awarded initial accreditation with no conditions and no concerns. The fully accredited program emphasizes service to rural and Native American communities. The specific mission of Humboldt's Title IV-E program is to develop a tribal and public child welfare workforce for those communities.
Loma Linda's Social Work Department Moves
In December, Loma Linda University's Department of Social Work and Social Ecology is scheduled to move to an off-campus building equipped with smart classrooms, community rooms, international teleconferencing facilities, and student sitting areas. The newly renovated structure is two miles from the main campus.
Bay Area Field Collaborative Plans January Meeting
To enhance regional IV-E internship opportunities in five member schools, the Bay Area Field Collaborative holds a mandatory annual meeting of all prospective child welfare interns. The third annual meeting will occur on January 8, when students from the Bay Area schools will meet with county representatives offering internships in at least eight counties. The annual meeting has been well received by students and includes common calendar dates for interviews, decisions, and acceptance notification.

EVIDENCE-BASED PRACTICE (EBP)
Upcoming Symposium
On January 28, 2008, CalSWEC and the Child & Family Policy Institute of California (CFPIC) will present a Leadership Symposium on Evidence-Based Practice in the Human Services. The all-day symposium "Shaping the Next Generation of Evidence in Child Welfare" will be held at the Town and Country Hotel in San Diego, co-located with the 22nd Annual San Diego International Conference on Child & Family Maltreatment January 28-February 1, 2008. The symposium is part of a larger effort by CalSWEC and CFPIC to implement and disseminate practice-oriented research on child welfare. New Staff
Sevaughn Banks, Ph.D., has joined CalSWEC as a Training and Evidence-Based Practice Specialist. Dr. Banks will assist CalSWEC and its coordinating partners with the January symposium, as well as other aspects of infusing EBP into training and education. She has experience with several programs at San Francisco State University, including the Bay Area Academy and the instructional program.
