Evidence-Based Practice

Human services professionals, much like their counterparts in medicine and other fields, are moving toward an evidence-based model of practice. But what does this really mean? How do we define evidence-based practice, and how do we effectively integrate empirical evidence into the everyday practices of staff working in the human services?

As a partnership between the practice and academic communities in California, CalSWEC has been working collaboratively with many partners to answer these questions, and to promote greater understanding of the potential of an evidence-based practice model in the human services.

California's Research Agenda

Over the course of 2005 and 2006, the Research and Training Network (RTN, see Partners below) has worked with the research and practice communities in child welfare to develop a common agenda for research in child welfare. This agenda is informed by input from will be updated on an ongoing basis through more collaborative work. It is intended to guide research in child welfare at all levels, including: CalSWEC’s Research and Development Projects; student and faculty research at the schools of social work; and county-based and regional research.
