Priority Research Questions for CalSWEC 2009 RFP

The research priority questions for this RFP were formulated from topics generated at the Evidence-Based Practice Symposium sponsored by CalSWEC and the Child & Family Policy Institute of California (CFPIC). With input from CalSWEC Research and Development Committee, the County Welfare Directors Association (CWDA) Children's Committee, and California Department of Social Services (CDSS), the priorities reflect the current needs of the California Child Welfare System. With a focus on outcomes the research priority questions are as follows:

Priority #1:

What constellation of mental health and/or substance abuse services is most effective in promoting child and family permanency and/or well-being? The proposed research should build upon prior CalSWEC-sponsored research on this topic. Click HERE for the list of prior research projects related to this priority.

Priority #2:

What is the impact of placement type (i.e., relative, foster care, group care, or foster family agency) on child safety, permanency, or well-being?

Priority #3:

What is the comparative impact of team decision making and/or family group decision making versus standard practice of decision making on child safety, permanence or well-being?
