Agency-University Partnership Reaps Rewards for Humboldt County

The Humboldt County Department of Health and Human Services' (DHHS) May 2015 bulletin includes a message from Assistant Director of Program Barbara LaHaie in which she pays tribute to the successful partnership that the DHHS has enjoyed with Humboldt State University.

Three years ago, Humboldt State established the part-time-only distributed learning Pathway Program offered through the Title IV-E Stipend Program that provides support for students from the BASW to the MSW levels who live in California's rural and remote regions and who are employees of county agencies. Ms. LaHaie reports that through this program, three DHHS employees are scheduled to complete their MSWs in May and four more in spring 2016.

For their part, DHHS staff have taken on social worker interns in such units as in Public Health, Social Services, Mental Health, and Integrated Studies.
