The following broad eligibility requirements apply:

  • MSW students in accredited social work or social welfare programs in California are eligible to submit proposals. They do not have to be a CalSWEC Title IV-E Child Welfare or Mental Health Program stipend recipient to apply.
  • Proposals may be submitted by individual students or by students working together in teams. Any award for a team research project will be shared by the team members.
  • Research faculty and agency supervisors must approve the projects, and they must sign the application.

The Research Award for MSW Students encourages and supports student research that will contribute to the evidence base for policy and practice for public human services. The award goals include:

  • Fostering interest in applied, practice-oriented research for MSW students;
  • Promoting student research that is relevant to agency practice; and
  • Creating a forum for students to share research results with agencies that will benefit.

CalSWEC’s Research and Development (R&D) Committee, in conjunction with the California Association of Deans and Directors (CADD), established the Research Award for MSW Students to encourage and support student research that will contribute to the evidence base for policy and practice in public human services.
