CalSWEC Joins Education Equals Partnership

CalSWEC continues to support the Stuart Foundation's efforts to improve the educational outcomes of children and youth involved in the child welfare system through the Education Equals Partnership. This builds on CalSWEC’s past work on the foundation’s Ready to Succeed Initiative.

The goals of the Education Equals Partnership are:

  • to build a universal screening and monitoring system,
  • to develop strategies that target intensive intervention to students in transition, and
  • to establish systems to prioritize school stability.

Over the past several months, the Education Equals Partnership has been primarily focused on:

  1. researching and exploring available resources and programs related to the Education Equals goals and
  2. prioritizing and developing the educational screening and monitoring model to be used with children and youth.

A field scan of promising and evidenced-based practices, scheduled for publication in April, was completed in November 2012 in collaboration with the Stuart Foundation, AIR (American Institutes for Research), and CalSWEC.

The Stuart Foundation with support from CalSWEC is working closely with the counties to develop innovative practices to meet the Education Equals goals. Training and Implementation Specialist Joanne Pritchard is leading CalSWEC’s work, described as intensive and fast-paced.
