Leadership Changes in CalSWEC Title IV-E Stipend Program

Christine Mathias, Director of CalSWEC’s Title IV-E Stipend Program, will be joining the Bay Area Academy, hosted by CSU Fresno, as its new Assistant Director on July 6, announced CalSWEC Executive Director Rodger Lum.

“Ms. Mathias will leave CalSWEC after 15 years of outstanding service to assume an exciting opportunity to work directly on workforce development efforts in child welfare in the greater San Francisco Bay Area,” he stated.

Dr. Lum also announced that Carolyn Shin, LCSW, currently the Assistant Director for CalSWEC's Title IV-E Stipend Program, will serve as the Interim Director of the program, effective June 30, until the position is permanently filled.  

Ms. Shin joined CalSWEC in April 2011 as a curriculum specialist with the Ready to Succeed and California Connected by 25 Initiatives. Since that time, she has assumed increasing responsibility with the Title IV-E Stipend Program, being named Assistant Director in 2014. 

Ms. Shin has 15 years of direct service and administrative experience working with child-, youth-, and family-serving organizations in child welfare, mental health, public health, and social justice. She holds a B.A. in American Civilization and Ethnic Studies from Brown University and an M.S.W from the University of California, Berkeley. She is also a certified mediator.
