Melissa Connelly Is New Director of Child Welfare In-Service Training

Melissa Connelly is the new director of Child Welfare In-service Training at CalSWEC, effective October 16, 2014. She had served interimly in that position since mid-August following the departure of Director Barrett Johnson.

“Melissa has performed admirably as the interim director and training and curriculum specialist, and will bring her many insights to the permanent appointment,” said CalSWEC Executive Director Rodger Lum in making the announcement. “Her predecessor, Barry Johnson, laid an excellent foundation in in-service training, and as we continue with strategic planning we are excited about future directions and initiatives that Melissa will help guide us toward.”

Ms. Connelly's background includes 10 years of child welfare direct service as a social worker and supervisor. Since joining CalSWEC in 2008, she has worked on the California Common Core Curriculum for new child welfare workers, projects related to the California Child and Family Services Review, and After18 training. She also supported the County Welfare Directors Association (CWDA)  in their work to develop a practice model for California.
