New Training Videos Help Prepare Resource Families for Foster Care Parenting

CalSWEC, in collaboration with the Bay Area Academy, has added three videos to the Just in Time (JIT) Video Training Library to guide Resource Family applicants in the Resource Family Approval (RFA) process.

Through the Resource Family Approval Program, the California Department of Social Services (CDSS) works with child welfare agencies, foster parent associations, and other interested community parties, to implement a unified, family-friendly, and child-centered resource family approval process. In participating counties, this process replaces the existing process for licensing foster family homes.

Just in Time training is provided for foster parents and other caregivers as part of California’s Quality Parenting Initiative (QPI), an approach to strengthening foster care by refocusing on excellent parenting for all children in the child welfare system.

The latest JIT training videos are:

RFA applicants can also take a 10-item quiz for each training video.  Upon correctly answering 80% of the questions, the applicants will be awarded a certificate for which they may receive training credit if authorized by their county.

QPI began in 2009 as a collaborative effort with CDSS and the County Welfare Directors Association (CWDA) of California to strengthen statewide efforts for the recruitment and retention of quality caregivers who support the health development of and achievement of permanency for children who cannot live with their parents.
