Program Evaluation & Workforce Research (Tier 1)

CalSWEC's primary evaluation tier promotes efforts to enhance the workforce to improve services for the client population. This includes evaluation of the Title IV-E Stipend Program, the Mental Health Program, and the California Common Core Curricula (Child Welfare training).

Title IV-E Child Welfare Stipend Program Evaluation

The Title IV-E Stipend Program evaluates the extent to which the goal is being met to increase the numbers of professionally educated social workers committed to careers in public child welfare serving disadvantaged children and families. Several reports and resources are available in this section, including the California Public Child Welfare Workforce Study, the statewide pre-service MSW curriculum evaluation, and the study of graduates' career paths.

Child Welfare In-Service Training Evaluation

CalSWEC has been a national leader in in-service training evaluation in the field of child welfare, and has hosted the National Human Services Training Evaluation Symposium (NHSTES) since 1998.  CalSWEC also leads the implementation of the Common Core Curricula Evaluation in collaboration with our in-service training partners.

Mental Health Program Evaluation and Research

Ongoing and periodic program evaluation activities are fundamental for:

  1. refining and strengthening the curriculum to better support the development of a diverse workforce for today's mental health systems,
  2. learning about the strengths of the student cohorts and the challenges students encounter in their graduate education and subsequent employment, and
  3. sharing what is learned with other universities, mental health providers and leaders, and policymakers.
