Technical Assistance Calls for Implementation

The Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) and the California Department of Social Services (CDSS) sponsor monthly technical assistance calls for county leadership regarding the Core Practice Model, the revised Medi-Cal Manual (2016), and related integrated practices.  To request the conference call dial-in number and passcode, please email KatieA@dhcs.ca.gov or KatieA@dss.ca.gov

Guidance for Implementation

Planning for an integrated Core Practice Model for child welfare and mental health practitioners begins with a vision and proceeds through a series of decisions and planned actions for implementation.

  • How would a collaborative child welfare and mental health system be experienced by children, families, staff, and mental health providers?
  • What are the decisions and steps that county leaders need to consider in order to implement the integrated practice model according to country-specific needs?

These questions are explored in the Overview of the Integrated Core Practice Model:  Pathways to Well-Being – Implementation as Intended and its companion document, the Pathways to Well-Being Implementation Planning Tool. These are "living" documents, developed by CFPIC and Shared Vision Consultants, with funding from Zellerbach Family Foundation.  We invite your suggestions for ongoing improvement.  Send your recommendations to Phyllis Jeroslow, pjero@berkeley.edu.

County Perspectives on Implementation

The California Child Welfare Co-Investment Partnership published "Improving Outcomes for Children in Foster Care", which outlines the approaches of four counties to implementing an integrated service delivery model through shared management. The counties are Fresno, Los Angeles, Placer, and San Francisco.

As counties plan for new programs and initiatives associated with the implementation of Katie A., the Initiative, Program, or Intervention Readiness Assessment Tool will allow counties to determine organizational readiness for implementation.

Strategies for Family and Youth Involvement

DHCS and CDSS jointly issued an information notice regarding specific strategies for incorporating the experiences and perspectives of families and youth within county implementation plans for the Core Practice Model.

Service Selection - IHBS, MHS, TBS, ICC, TCM and Wraparound

DHCS has developed a Katie A. Service Comparison (2014) matrix to help distinguish between IHBS, MHS, TBS, ICC, TCM, and Wraparound services. The matrix provides a funding source; eligibility criteria; service distinctions and service settings information; and a definition for each service.

Sharing Planning Tools

We encourage members of the Learning Collaborative to assist statewide implementation by sharing their county planning tools on this website.  If you have any planning documents, forms, or other tools to share, please contact Phyllis Jeroslow, pjero@berkeley.edu.
