Berkeley Social Welfare's Latinx Center of Excellence

The IBH Program is responsible for the design and implementation of all evaluation activities associated with Berkeley Social Welfare’s Latinx Center of Excellence (LCOE), which is supported by a $3.4 million Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) grant awarded in July 2017.

The LCOE’s specific goals and activities include:

  • Developing pipeline strategies to increase Latinx student interest in behavioral health

  • Providing stipend support and specialized field placements for Latinx MSW students

  • Sponsoring cultural immersion opportunities for MSW students interested in Latinx behavioral health issues

  • Offering academic support and student-initiated research opportunities focused on Latinx behavioral health issues

  • Recruiting and training post-doctoral fellows in Latinx behavioral health

  • Supporting the recruitment, retention and promotion of Latinx faculty at Berkeley Social Welfare and elsewhere

Through this work, the IBH Program will document and analyze both the processes and outcomes associated with the LCOE’s achievement of its goals over the life of the grant.
