CalSWEC from the Inside Out

CalSWEC Executive Director Virginia Rondero Hernandez and the Executive Team and their staffs have been engaged in a number of projects and activities in January, some of which will extend into the rest 2018. Many reflect CalSWEC’s new tagline, which the organization adopted in November 2017: Leadership. Partnership. Workforce Development.

Following is a list of the most significant activities, with the responsible team and its Executive Team leader. 

Executive Directorship (Virginia Rondero Hernandez)

  • CalSWEC tagline—Leadership. Partnership. Workforce Development.: Promote the official organization-wide adoption of the tagline that reflects and will guide CalSWEC's primary activities into the future.
  • Advisory Board activities: Consult with the Nominations and Bylaws Committees to support proposed changes and address Board vacancies; following Board approval in October 2017 of proposed changes to its structure and composition, coordinate the April 19, 2018, meeting of the reconstituted Board.
  • Partnership: Continue discussions with the California Department of Social Services (CDSS) leadership and county welfare director consortia about the best ways to collaborate and align our mutual interests.

Title IV-E Stipend Program (Carolyn Shin)

  • CSIS (CalSWEC Student Information System): Implement the new platform.
  • Evaluation: Launch the comprehensive program evaluation plan. 
  • Administration: Continue process improvements.

Child Welfare In-Service Training (Marcy Hara)

  • Curriculum: Develop Supervisor Core Curriculum and begin piloting by the end of 2018; complete Common Core Revisions and finalize curriculum and evaluation plan that includes content fidelity plan; continue to develop curriculum to meet the initiative requirements and support child welfare staff.
  • Partnership: Increase the Just In Time website content to support local resource parent needs.

Integrated Behavioral Health (IBH) (E. Maxwell Davis)

  • Mental Health Services Act (MHSA) Stipend Program: Close out the program, transition to follow-up, tracking only stipend program participants; launch the retrospective study of MHSA stipend program outcomes.
  • SF Bay Area IBH MSW Stipend Program: Complete the first year.
  • Latinx Center of Excellence: Evaluate the first year.
  • Partnership: Continue to  participate in multiple statewide planning efforts focused on behavioral health workforce development for California.

Evaluation and Research (Sandhya Rao Hermon)

  • Title IV-E Stipend Program: Implement the comprehensive program evaluation plan; conduct a long-term follow-up with former Title IV-E graduates.
  • Integrated Behavioral Health: Conduct a long-term follow-up with former MHSA Stipend Program graduates.
  • Child Welfare In-Service Training: Develop and implement an evaluation plan for the Supervisor Core.
  • Administration: Become fully staffed so that we can release our quarterly evaluation dashboards on a timely basis.

Technology and Instructional Design (Christopher Cajski) 

  • Website-related Activities: Grow the Resources area of the new website, unveil the new CalSWEC website at the Title IV-E Summit; launch the CalSWEC Network Hub.
  • Partnership: Establish a statewide LMS plan with the California Department of Social Services (CDSS).

Administration (Nancy Nelson)

  • Title IV-E—Fiscal: Execute the IV-E contract for 2018–2020 by July 1, 2018, and subsequent distribution of the subawards to the schools.
  • Child Welfare In-Service Training—Fiscal: Executive the Regional Training Academy Project contract for 2018–2021 by July 1, 2018.
  • Administration: Complete the CalSWEC Fiscal Manual, gathering into one site all processes we have developed.
