These are among the nine drafts CalSWEC Curriculum Competencies for Public Child Welfare, Behavioral Health, and Aging in California—the result of two years of extensive review and input.Now, the draft has been issued for public comment; the deadline for input is April 9.

Network Hub, an online library that makes discovering and using learning materials easier for the social work community.

The CalSWEC Network Hub enables social work educators, trainers, practitioners, students, and their community to find learning materials on this central online space, then share, use, or adapt them.

Shay O’Brien has joined the Regional Training Academy (RTA) Coordination Project in the career position of training and curriculum specialist, effective March 14, announced Joanne Pritchard, Interim Director of CalSWEC’s Child Welfare In-Service Training Project. Previously, Ms. O’Brien was a contract employee.

CalSWEC has hired Ore Carmi for the position of administrative assistant, effective February 14. He will provide support for both the Administrative and Evaluation and Research teams.

The announcement came from Administrative Director Nancy Nelson, who said, “We are pleased to have Mr. Carmi join CalSWEC, where his skills will be put to good use supporting the growing needs of our initiative projects.”

The program builds capacity for collecting “gap” data in current SACWIS

Daphne Short is the new Project Director of the Efforts to Outcomes (ETO) Self-Evaluation Program, effective February 6, announced Melissa Connelly, Director of CalSWEC’s Child Welfare In-Service Training Project. She succeeds Tara Lain.

The ETO program assists counties with the collection of “gap” data not tracked in the current Statewide Automated Child Welfare Information System (SACWIS). It is hosted by the Regional Training Academy Project at CalSWEC.

She was instrumental in refining the collection of IV-E student information

Data Management Specialist Dr. Susan Jacquet, the individual who arguably knows CalSWEC’s Student Information System (CSIS) most intimately and who has generously shared her expertise with many a consortium administrator as well as her CalSWEC colleagues over the past 16 years, is closing her Excel sheets and retiring, effective January 4, 2017.

Colleen Clark has joined the Efforts to Outcomes (ETO) Self-Evaluation Program as a research data analyst, effective October 17.

ETO, which builds capacity for the collection of “gap” data not tracked in the current SACWIS system, is hosted by the Regional Training Academy Project at CalSWEC.

In welcoming Ms. Clark, ETO Project Director Tara Lain said, “Colleen brings a wealth of experience, knowledge, and skills as a trainer and as a social worker in a wide range of program areas that will be of great benefit to ETO. I am extremely pleased that she has joined our team.”

Dr. Virginia Rondero Hernandez has been named CalSWEC's first full-time Executive Director/Principal Investigator, effective September 6.

Organization’s Strategic Plan, greater sustainability are among accomplishments of his tenure

Dr. Roger Lum became CalSWEC's Interim Director in January 2014 and was named Executive Director that August, serving part-time on a one-year contract that was subsequently renewed. Effective September 1, 2016, Dr. Virginia Rondero Hernandez was hired to take over the reins as CalSWEC's first full-time Executive Director and Principal Investigator. As Dr. Lum departs, he reflects on his CalSWEC experience and shares plans for his own Third Act.

Mental health issues were the focus of the two award-winning research projects in this year’s competitive Research Award for MSW Students. Each student received $500 as the winner and $250 for her initial proposal.
